Happy Tails
Dear Happy Tails:
I just wanted to write in to tell you how happy we are with our little Jack. Jack was a two month old kitten, the runt of the litter when we were introduced at your Christmas in July event. I fell in love with this cuddly baby immediately and brought him home later that day. Now, Cooper (my other cat) and I can't imagine what we did without him. Cooper and Jack love each other, always playing and wrestling and cuddling with one another. And Jack sleeps curled around my head on my pillow. I never sit on the couch for very long before he comes over to snuggle. In fact, he's purring on my chest as I'm typing this email. I can't imagine what our little family was like before Jack and we have you to thank for it. Thank you so much!

Dear Happy Tails:
Last August my husband and I felt there was something greatly missing in our lives. We had both had dogs growing up and we felt that adding a dog to our familiy would truly enhance our family as well as our quality of life. We looked online and saw a dog named "Snoops" that was pictured on your site. We really loved her picture. We had every intension on going to get Snoops. We were sad to see that Snoops was there, but already spoken for. We were so disappointed. However, we met a young girl named Tasha. She was a black lab mix. She has a lot of border collie in her as well. I knew she was the one when I went to pet her and she laid down and showed me her belly to rub. :) She then licked my hand. It was love at first lick. My husband and I adopted Tasha that day. We had to go pick her up 2 days later following her surgery. We came to find out some sad information about Tasha. She was found in the streets of Highspire. So as far as we knew she never had a home. She was in your kennel and then was shipped over to the west branch of the Humane Society. She was left there for a while and then sent back to you. She had been in your kennels for over five months. She had so much energy. When we saw her in the kennels she jumped soooooo high. We were concerned but we felt that we could handle the challenge. We named her Leia (my husband is a big Star Wars Fan) :) She is a gem. She is the most loving dog I have ever owned. She crawls up into our laps and licks. She is so smart. We enrolled her in obediance school. She has graduated from Basic Training, Look Ma No Leash, and has completed 4 agility classes where she is at the top of her class. She is by far the fastest and most obedient. We have hopes of competing soon. What some would never believe is this high energy dog loves most to cuddle and sleep with you. She is the most well trained dog we have ever owned. We look forward to coming home because we know she will be greeting us with a wagging tail and a smile... yes... we believe dogs smile. Attached are some pictures of Leia and in honor of her Birth Month (when we got her) we would like to also make a donation to you. We want to thank you for all that you did to keep Leia/Tasha alive for us. You cared for her, you walked her, you cleaned up after her and you loved her. Thank you for doing that. Because of you, our family is complete. Our donation will be coming in the mail. Please send us information about additional benefits we may be able to give.
-A heartfelt thanks from Matt, Serenity and Leia
Dear Happy Tails:
We adopted Max (originally Mace) from the Humane society 4 years ago. He had actually just been received at the site from people that owned him lived in an apartment and didn't have the time to spend walking and playing with him like he needs. When we got Max he was very young, less than 12 weeks and he was just a little bundle of energy. We live on a farm that has 138 acres and he enjoys running all over the fields and sitting on top of the hill watching over the farm. Max is a jack russell, sheltie mix and even though they thought he would only get to be about 15 lbs today he is a happy slim 50 lbs that loves his home and his daily walks on the farm. We couldn't be happier with him and hopefully he is as happy with us!

Dear Happy Tails:
Our Family recently adopted a 3 month old kitten from the Humane Society of Harrisburg on Tuesday, January 20. His name was Khufu! I just wanted to share with you a picture of Khufu with his happy new "mommy", Alexis our daughter. Alexis renamed Khufu - Oreo! Oreo is a pleasant little kitten, lots of personality, loves to be cuddled and spoiled! He has adjusted to his new home wonderfully! Could you please share this email and picture with the ladies at the front desk? They were so helpful to us during Oreo's adoption and were so sad to see him ago!
Recently, our daughter Alexis' Grandmother died - (her Dad's Mom) who was her only Grandmother. Alexis' counselor thought a pet would work wonders for her. I am almost in tears as I write this, because Oreo is just what Alexis needed to bring her out of her grief! She is a new little girl! I guess you can say that both Alexis and Oreo needed each other! And as you can see from the attached picture - they love each other very much!
Again, many thanks!
-Will, Lisa, Alexis and Oreo
Dear Happy Tails:
We adopted Belle (beagle/pointer) mix in March of 2008. I have always had pets growing up and I found that I really missed having one. After some discussion with my husband we decided that rather then get a pure bread dog we wanted to adopt one. We didn’t see Belle (Southern Belle was her name while at the humane society) at first, but after walking through for the last time she caught our eye. She was such a sweet dog when we met her and we knew right then that she was the one. About 5 months later we decided that she needed a companion. So again, we decided to adopt. We welcomed Remi (pit bull/terrier) into our family in August of 2008. It was a shaky start. We were not sure how Belle was going to react or Remi (Persephone was her name at the humane society) for that matter. At the beginning, Belle was very jealous and Remi was scared and nervous. During the first week they determined who the alpha dog was going to be and have been buddies ever since. They get along very well. They enjoy rough housing with each other, chewing on their bones, going for walks, but most of all they enjoy taking over our bed. Of course they have their moments, but we wouldn’t trade them in for anything. Thank you for introducing us to such great companions!

Dear Happy Tails:
Benny was adopted in September of 2008. He has been a wonderful family member. He makes sure Mommy Lisa is up each morning and waits for her while she showers knowing he can bat at her bathrobe belt yet again. Then he anxiously awaits in the kitchen for his breakfast and morning hug. On late nights he makes sure Daddy Rich is in bed by 1:30 by going down to the den and yelling at him cause its time to go to bed. Everyone who has met Benny falls in love with him. He tries to bribe them with snuggles for a piece of their hot wings. (even though he knows he won't get one cause they are not good for kittys'). He loves snuggling on heads to keep you warm during these cold months too. Benny's Aunt Kris and Uncle Tim, have been his biggest fans, they are always asking about him and buying him lots of presents, especially at Christmas time. Benny's new job is being a big brother and setting an example for his new adopted little brother, Chester. Chester maybe a dog but Benny loves him just the same. He waits for Chester and Mommy at the kitchen door each morning while Chester goes outside. Plus, there are all these new toys in the house that he gets to chase after with his brother, one day he will get that heave a beaver. The best part of being a big brother has been snuggling with Chester and Mommy in the den during tv time next to the fire. Well that and my new cat tree!

Dear Happy Tails:
I adopted Sage from the Harrisburg Area Humane Society on Leap Day - 2/29/08! I fell in love with her before I even met her - searching online, I found her Petfinder entry and just knew she was the one. At first she was timid, but after getting to know each other, she became the most loving, sweetest, happy-go-lucky dog I've ever
known. It is a pure pleasure to wake up with her tail in my face every morning (she likes to sleep head to toe, though I have tried many times to get her to turn around LOL) and see her experience a loving life with myself, her "daddy," and her "sister" - a 4-year-old brindle AmStaff named Tara. While the first couple of weeks were
strained, Tara and Sage are now the best of friends, as one of my attached pictures will prove!
Sage was certainly the product of a difficult puppyhood when she came to me. She was rather thin, and whenever she got food she would scarf it up like she might never eat again (earning her the nickname 'Hoover'). Today she's a healthy weight - bordering on 'Chunky Monkey' - and doesn't feel the need to eat her food all at once, or at light speed. She has obviously become very comfortable with her cushy life of eating twice a day, sitting and laying down for treats, and wrestling with her big sister. Everyone who meets her comments on her wonderful disposition and beautiful pit bull smile (although she is a mix... and is missing a tooth or two)! Her favorite things to do include chewing her toys, laying in our bay window watching the world go by, running and playing with her sister, and laying against the bathroom door while I shower. :)
Thanks to all of you for taking good care of Sage until she was able to rescue me from my dogless life! She is the greatest thing that ever happened to me, and I feel honored to give her a loving and comfortable home. Pictures of my chunky monkey are attached!
