Confession, now named Riley, arrived at HSHA in January 2015 when her owner was being evicted from his apartment and could no longer meet the needs of this sweet girl. A year ago on May 18, 2015 this pretty girl went to her FURever home. Yesterday her new owners, Nick & Brigid, sent the best one year update about this wonderful dog that has changed their lives for the better.

“One year ago today, my girlfriend and I rescued Riley. When we first met Riley she was a sweet, loving dog but she was very shy. The first time we went to see her, she was in the back of her run; afraid to come see any visitors while all the dogs around her were doing anything to get our attention. We took her outside and she instantly started warming to Brigid and I – playing fetch, licking our faces, generally just being a sweetheart. So naturally, it was game over for us and one week later we were taking care of our first dog!

Since then, Riley has grown to be one of the most lovable, smart, and friendly dogs. She has learned how to sit, lay, roll, play dead, stay, play hide and seek, find her bone, wait for me to settle in before greeting me, and fetch! Some of her favorite things to do include playing tug of war, running around in big (and progressively smaller) circles in the yard when I get home, playing with her cousins Huey (also a HSHA alum!) and Berkeley, snuggling as hard as she possibly can, staring at bunnies in our backyard, and chasing said bunnies in vain.

Riley has the uncanny ability to make every day better for Brigid and me. It’s hard to tell who gets more excited when we come home, Riley or us.

Brigid and I wanted to take a moment to write to the amazing people at HSHA today to thank them for everything they have done and still do. The challenges Brigid and I faced while getting used to taking care of a dog were made small by the great work that the team at HSHA does with all of the animals they care for every day.  Brigid and I often say how lucky we are to have such an amazing dog but we know it’s not all luck. We rescued a dog from one of the best shelters in the state and the care and work they put into Riley during her stay has undoubtedly made her into one of the best dogs, pets, friends we could have ever asked for. Thanks HSHA!”

Thank you Nick & Brigid for giving this amazing dog a home of her own! Its adopters, like you, that make our jobs easy! Thanks again.
