Volunteers are a vital part of the HSHA team. Without them, we would not be able to perform many of the essential functions at our shelter. HSHA is always looking for dedicated and committed volunteers to assist with the shelter animals and some of the everyday responsibilities of shelter life. Whether you are interested in walking dogs, helping at events, or socializing cats, there is a place for you at HSHA. The animals are waiting for you ... get started today!

Hello from a giant woofer! I'm Max Studley, a 97 pound senior pit bull terrier mix. I'm not supposed to weigh that much. All my extra weight has worsened my arthritis, and it's hard for me to walk. I'm on a diet, and my new family will need to commit 100% to helping me lose weight. It's really important for my health! I arrived here as a stray at the beginning of August. I'm 7-8 years old. I guard my food and toys, so it would be best if I lived with kids over 12. I could live with dog-savvy cats. I liked the other dog I met, but I tried to be dominant with that dog and it didn't go so well. Any dog I live with needs to know how to handle and respect my size and pushy ways. An experienced owner would help too. I love squeaky toys and playtime. When you come in to meet me, you'll see that I've not had the most TLC recently. My broken tail is hairless, my fur is thin, and I have hair loss where a collar was left too tight on my big neck. My elbows have callouses because I have to lay down so much due to my weight. I sleep on my bed all day and look a little sad. I'm really looking forward to a family who knows how to love a dog and care for him the right way. In return, I promise to be loyal, loving, and impressive.
Hi, I'm Fireball, a striking Tortoiseshell cat with a coat of distinctive patterns and colors. A "fireball" is a meteor brighter than the planet Venus. Well, I do have a "glowing" personality! My name might hint at an energetic and ambitious cat, but I'm a laid-back, soft-spoken, gentle girl. Do I have the notorious "tortitude" for which we are known? No one has seen any feisty, bossy "tude" in me so far, and I doubt that they ever will. I'm a love sponge and will soak up all the love and affection you have to give. The best part is, I'll return the love tenfold, once I'm secure and comfortable in my new home. I came here with a large group of cats whose owner fell on some hard times, so I can live with other cats. I like to play with wand toys and the laser light, but my favorite activity is plopping down on your lap for some chillin' and relaxin’ time. I'm terrific to have around and am very appreciative of the human touch. Some people say torties or torbies are reincarnated princesses! True or not, I would love to be YOUR princess and live in YOUR castle. I'm an average sized cat, but my heart is as big as a meteor! I know I'll light up your life if you adopt me...please come in to meet me soon!
